This section provides information about Census coverage and reporting for establishments in the Other Services sector.

Establishments Covered

Other Services (except Public Administration) establishments provide services that are not specifically classified in another NAICS sector. These establishments provide a variety of services to business, household, and individual customers. NAICS classifies establishments in the Other Services sector using numbers that start with 81.

The Economic Census covers all Other Services establishments that operated during all or part of calendar year 2012, except religious organizations, labor unions, political organizations, and private households. Examples of covered services include automotive, equipment, and machinery repair; appliance, furniture, and shoe repair; computer, office machine, and communication equipment repair and maintenance; personal and household goods repair and maintenance; laundry, beauty, barber, and personal care services; funeral home and cemetery services; pet care, photo finishing, and parking services; grant making and giving services; civic and social organizations; and environmental, conservation, and wildlife organizations.

Census Mail Package

Establishments that provide Other Services and have paid employees will receive a Census mail package with several types of materials. The materials are similar in content, but customized to make reporting easier for different groups of Other Services establishments. These establishments will receive either an Information Sheet and Census form, or a Classification form. Companies with multiple operating establishments will receive the appropriate Information Sheet for every group of similar forms, and not necessarily one Information Sheet for every form.

Information Sheets provide general information about the Census and instructions for reporting selected items on the Census form. Other Services establishments will receive either Information Sheet SV-ST_I_12 or SV-SM_I_12; or if they are enterprise support establishments, Information Sheet SV-ST-A_I_12.

Census Forms describe each data item for Other Services establishments, and provide instructions and formats for reporting them. Census forms for Other Services establishments are numbered OS-81xxx.
